Tiger Woods misses the cut at the 93rd PGA Championship at Atlanta
Tiger Woods has now failed to make the cut at the 93rd PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club, marking it the fourth occasion in his professional career to end up missing the cut. There was credible possibility that Woods is headed for
a kick out from the event after he fell in for his worst opening round in any major event, posting an unbelievable seven-over, 77.
In an attempt to survive the cut, Woods played desperately on the second day, only to post another disappointing three-over, 73 to finish for an aggregate of 10-over.
The former world number one and a two-time FedExCup Rankings champion, has now dropped to 129th on the list and will now miss the FedExCup Playoffs scheduled later in the year. Woods will be heading back to his Jupiter, Florida home for the moment
to recollect on his gruesome loss at the PGA Championship where he has gone over to win the title for four times in his career.
“I showed signs that I can hit the ball exactly how I know I can,” Woods said. “Unfortunately, I just didn’t do it enough times. Now I have nothing to do but work on my game, That’s going to be good.”
The second day turned out to be another disaster for the 14-major winner. He fell in for terrible double-bogeys on 11th and 12th and three other bogeys throughout the course of the day. The player pulled in four birdies, one of them
coming on the 15th, which proved fatal for the 35-year-old champion yesterday. Woods, however, insists that he found quite a few positive signs from his ordeal at the last major of the season.
“I’m hitting the ball farther,” he said.
But for the moment, Woods will not be returning to the course any sooner than the JBWere Masters in Australia and possibly The President's Cup scheduled at the end of the year. His participation in the President’s Cup will depend on the current captain of
the US team, Fred Couples who is now more likely to opt one of the young golfers on the tour rather than the former champion.
Woods missed the cut in 2009 at the Open Championship and has not won a single event for the last two years.
