Tiger Woods must concentrate on par-5s at TPC Boston
Tiger Woods shot 3-under 68 on Saturday to finish the first 36 holes at 10-under at Deutsche Bank Open. As it stands, Tiger Woods is at T3 with just two strokes behind the leader Rory McIlroy.
It was not a very convincing performance from the former world number one who once again had problems on the greens.
"I'm happy with the way I hit it," Woods said. "I didn't putt very good. I didn't really make anything. Hopefully tomorrow I will be a lot better," said an optimistic Tiger.
Tiger historically has played some mind blowing golf at some of the courses. Bay Hill, Muirfield Village, Firestone, Torrey Pines and Augusta National are some of the golf courses where he has maintained his dominance for quite some time.
TPC Boston may not be his favourite but he has certainly done well in the past. He must use this experience to land in his fourth title of the season.
This was his 22nd under par round at this course out of 30. He must use his experience to his good advantage.
This is a golf course which suits Tiger Woods’ game to perfection. Here par-5s are the key. If he can strike birdies on the par-5s, then he stands a good chance in the end.
"If you look at the overall list of champions here, they're all big hitters," Woods said. "This golf course lends itself to that because it's the par-5s. If you can play the par-5s well here, you're going to do well here".
For Tiger, it is a must that he makes birdies on the par-5s in the next two rounds, if he has to challenge Rory McIlroy for the title. The par-5 18th is probably one of the easiest holes and there have been in total 31 birdies and six eagles on
Saturday but Woods could not score a birdie.
Throughout the year, Tiger has had problems in closing out the tournaments. He does well in the first two rounds but in the last two, he fades away.
This time around, however, he must use his experience and close out the last two rounds to his perfection. Woods has a golden chance to land in his fourth title of the season but nothing can be said for sure as yet.
