Tiger Woods’ bad luck continues as he had to retire from Jacksonville after playing just a few shots around at The Players Championship.
Since December, when a s*x scandal turned his life into jeopardy, nothing has been going right for the star. The world number one seems to be losing his title too as Phil Mickelson is breathing behind his back.
At The Players Championship, he could only play six holes in the final round, admitting that a neck injury was hampering him from playing.
Later a dejected Woods said, “I might have a bulging disk.” He also said that the results of his diagnosis will be due in next week and he will be on rest till then.
In account that the injury turns out to be serious in nature, Woods will face sheer trouble in the remainder of the season. The U.S. Open at Pebble beach is coming up along with the St. Lucia fixture. Woods has performed splendidly at these two places before and this will play an important role in his domination if he is able to succeed here.
The 34-year-old has currently won 14 majors and is well on his way for the 15th. Pebble Beach is also the place where he made an amazing 15 stroke record and presently Woods is just 4 titles short of the record set by Jack Nicklaus.
At the Masters too, Woods’ swing seemed to be out of touch as he tied for the fourth position. This may clarify the reason for his inconsistency at the Augusta National.
He didn’t comment on the injury back then but currently he has come out of the cupboard about it. Many conspiracy theorists have written books on the topic. He put gasoline on the fire by admitting, “I’ve been playing with a bad neck for quite a while.” The question then is why he has continued to play?
He didn’t explain the reason but has confessed, “I know playing doesn’t help it. I’m having a hard time with the pain. There’s tingling down my (right) fingers.”
Everyone who knows him well knows that Woods is not the kind of person who takes things easily. If he has a problem, he will deal with it immediately. For instance, he had problems with his knee and Achilles tendon last year. He immediately took up the issue and resolved it.
His injury seemed apparent from his posture. Despite his comeback, he just didn’t seem like the old Tiger. At the Sawgrass, he had to forfeit and leave the tournament. He did it not just because of the injury, but also because of the huge margin that he would have been behind winner Tim Clark.
Tim Clark indeed had a brilliant game as he made the win for a perfect 67. This was the South Africans first victory in the United States. In the end, Clark got it and proved that he deserved it.
For Woods, if the injury was the only issue then why didn’t he take action for it at Charlotte? Experts predict that Woods really needs to take a break and sort his issues out before he continues his career. He definitely has been devastated by developments in his family and needs to take up responsibility to get over it. He clearly seems to be hung up and unable to concentrate. The once invincible Tiger now seems to be at a decline but let’s see what the development awakes from Woods report next week.
