Tiger Woods not to give pre-round interviews starting from of the Wells Fargo Championship next week
Tiger Woods will come out of the shadows next week to participate in the Wells Fargo Championship, his first PGA Tour event after his catastrophic loss at the Masters earlier this month.
Woods decided to go on a low profile after his Masters bid and said that he will not be playing for a while in order to reflect on his loss at Augusta National.
Woods and his associates will also be changing their strategy to interact with the media which has had a severe impact on Woods’ performance in the past few months.
Woods’ agent from the Excel Sports Management said that Woods will not be addressing the press ahead of the event instead he will release the video on his website where he would answer the selected questions from his fans.
Steinberg said, "We've been thinking about this for a couple of months now. We wanted to have a little bit more direct interaction with fans, and they've been very good to him over the years. We're probably a little bit behind with social media and this
is a way to do that”.
One of the possible reasons of Woods decline to address media in person is probably to avoid an impact of the scathing criticism he receives ahead of the events.
His post-round interaction with the media will continue on the previous footings.
Steinberg insisted that this pre-round arrangement will take place for just "a handful of times" and is not a long time arrangement.
He added, "Absolutely not. This will just be a few tournaments a year. It's just a chance to have him interact more with fans”.
Woods, rejuvenated with his long awaited victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month, was hoping to bag the green jacket for the fifth time in his stellar career.
He was one of the top-favourites in the event alongside Rory McIlroy but both players finished for a disastrous joint 40th.
Woods was also seen kicking his clubs in desperation on the final day.
Considered as the most celebrated player in the history of the sport, Woods gives more interviews than any other player in the sport.
Relatively shy of his fans, Woods is seldom seen interacting with his fans and signing autographs.
The new strategy is probably an attempt of the former world number one to improve his dilapidated image amongst his fans.
