Tiger Woods on the verge of missing the cut at the Players Championship – Golf News
The 14-time major winner, Tiger Woods, once again disappointed his fans with an unimpressive start to the Players Championship, on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
After missing the cut in last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, Woods was hoping to get back on track with a little work on his swing.
However, his plans did not work at the TPC Sawgrass too as he settled for a two-over par 74 opening round score, which puts him back on the 100th position on the leaderboard.
Woods started off with a bogey on the very first hole followed by a birdie and another bogey on the second and third hole.
Thereafter, he tried to maintain consistency and carded six par strokes. However, he again lost control over his game when he started off on the back nine, as he mixed two birdies with three bogeys.
"It certainly wasn't the most positive start," Woods said. "Any kind of momentum that I would build, I would shoot myself in the foot on the very next hole. Just one of those days”.
"I hit three decent shots in there and got some of the worst lies. The best shot I hit all day was on 3 and I ended up in a spot where I really couldn't play from,” he added. "It was frustrating in the sense that my good shots ended up in bad spots and obviously
my bad shots ended up in worse spots".
There was a time when he did not miss a single cut in around eight years. He is now on the verge of missing the cut for the second time in two weeks, which has never happened in his whole professional career.
Last year, the tournament witnessed him go out of the field because of the injury. This year, it may be his game that will push him back to the tent to pack his bags for home.
Woods made his 15th start at the Stadium Course and he maintained his perception of being the slow starter, never breaking 70 in the opening rounds, in the history of the tournament.
