Tiger Woods paid $50,000 a year for the services of Hank Haney as a swing coach
Hank Haney, Tiger Woods’ former swing coach, has now revealed details of the tough job he has landed by accepting to be Woods’ swing coach in 2004.
Although being an accolade in itself to teach one of the greatest golfers, Haney says the expectations of the former world number one were unusually high and required lot of patience and hard work on Haney’s part to be successful.
Excerpts from Haney’s upcoming book, “The Big Miss” have managed to reach some of the mainstream newspapers, and the fallout is taking its toll on the 14-major-winner.
Haney writes, "The message Tiger wanted to send was clear: "When I play bad, when I don't win, it's your fault." He was reminding me that his expectations were going to be incredibly high....... I also realized that I was never going to be able to relax
with Tiger Woods," he wrote. "He was going to be complicated, and he was going to surprise me with his moods”.
Haney reveals that the former number one was obsessed with his paranoid pursuit of stardom and stretched himself to limits which finally rendered severe damage to both his left knee and the Achilles strain.
Woods have already undergone four wide open surgeries on his left knee and the doctors have warned him that his anterior cruciate ligament is only 20 percent intact while Woods still insisted to undertake heavy workouts in gym.
Haney writes that he was paid only $50,000 for a year to be the coach of former world number one and was promised a bonus of $25,000 for a major victory.
The book is all set to be released on March 27, just one week ahead of the first major event of the year, The Masters at Augusta National.
Woods have not won a mainstream event for the last more than two years and his last victory came in 2009 in Australia. The 14-major-winner is on a roll to break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18-major victories and is hoping to regain his top form in the coming
events.
Hank Haney’s revelations in his upcoming book are certainly not going to help his former pupil achieve the same. The 247-page book also includes details about his extramarital affairs during his tenure with Haney.
