Tiger Woods plays Deutsche Bank Championship 2010 R1, the average way
Life doesn’t tell you when it’s going to take a turn for the worse and it sure never tells you why. For all the Tiger Woods fans out there, the Deutsche Bank Championship 2010 R1 has been a tough game to watch. Woods finished Round One with a one up at 72 par.
At the TPC in Boston Massachusetts, Tiger Woods played the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship which will continue till the 6th of September. Woods ended the opening round with a one over par 72. The first 6 holes that Woods played included Woods carding successive bogeys in 4 of them. At the 9th however, he ended up playing a birdie.
According to Tiger Woods, the drive, the putt and irons did not work for him at all. He said that the day itself was a good one but what he chose and what he played were never in cohesion. Woods claimed that the irons he hit and the drives he played were all flawed and weren’t up to the mark.
According to the R1 Leaders' board, Tiger Woods stood between Ernie Els at one under par and Dustin Johnson with a 2 up par 72. Phil Mickelson stood at minus 2 at under par 2 while Adam Scott stood with a minus 4 at the “others” section.
The top ten held a different story as the Leaders’ board on the 3rd of September was ruled by Zach Johnson with an impressive minus 8 but he wasn’t alone in this position. Jason Day also shared the lead with Johnson at the top with a minus 8. Rory Mcilroy, Ryan Moore and Ryan Palmer tried their level best to clinch the top spot but finished with a minus 7 at the end of the day.
Friday's play saw the game being stopped at 12:35 p.m. EDT due to heavy rains.
However, play resumed soon afterwards at the TPC at Boston but resulted in unfavorable conditions for those who started later that day. Heavy rains were expected to batter New England soon after which allowed golfers to play their balls right from where they wanted. Under such conditions, players who had an early tee-off gathered a competitive edge over their rivals.
Tiger Woods managed a game of three fairways but due to heavy winds, the former king of golf could only play to par and bogey in holes 10, 11 and 12.
According to Johnson, rain means good play with good scores. He stated that if rain hammers the golf club, it means that the ball doesn’t roll away to any place it likes, not the greens or go out of the fairway. He said the game of golf is a weather based sport since the winds can end up drying the favorable conditions and make the game all the more difficult. Johnson said heavy rains meant low scores would become the order for the day.
His recent performance at The Barclays had his fans expectations all hitting the roof. He finished the game with a 67 T-12 and many expect something like this at the Deutsche Championship but this event held a different story.
It seems like the current controversies in 2010 are taking their toll on Tiger Woods as he stands at number 65 out of a 112th golfers in the FedEx Cup list. But thanks to Phil Mickelson, he still maintains the world pecking order at the top spot. In the current battle of the FedEx Cup, Woods has 64 more golfers in front who lead him. According to Woods himself, this year has been tough on him and he understands it. Woods explained that it was slightly weird to be standing at number 65 and be led by the very same golfers on a board where he used to lead.
According to the current rankings, Tiger Woods needs to remain in the top 70. If, however, the golfer doesn’t finish in the required number, he will not be able to advance to the next phase of FedEx Cup at Cog Hill.
Many critics are now arguing whether Tiger Woods has become the average guy who came, played, collected the money but didn’t win. Collecting $157,500 at The Barclays didn’t seem to work out for the 34-year-old player. He needs to get back to his “normal” way of play before he gets used to the average game, ending up outside the FedEx run.
