Tiger Woods ready for a strong Ryder Cup performance at the Medinah Country Club
The legendary Tiger Woods has held himself responsible for the dismissal performances shown by the US Ryder Cup team in the last 15 years.
Woods is no doubt one of the greatest players the game of golf has ever produced. After turning professional in 1996, the American added a total of 101 professional victories to his resume.
Moreover, he is currently the second highest winner on the PGA Tour (74 wins) and also in the major championships (14 major titles).
No one can deny his dominance in the sport of golf in the past 15 years. However, there is something where he still has to prove his mettle – the Ryder Cup.
The former world number one has represented the US team six times in the biennial event and accumulated just 13-14-2.
The European team has won six of the last eight encounters and Woods was a part of five of them when the US team had to return home empty handed.
While making preparations for his seventh appearance in the event, he said that he did not earn enough points in all his appearances to provide his team a chance to win the event.
"Well, certainly I am responsible for that because I didn't earn the points that I was put out there for," Woods told reporters. "I believe I was out there, what, in five sessions each time and I didn't go 5-0 on our side”.
Woods is now optimistic about his performance this week and wishes his teammates to earn enough points to finish the European dominance in the prestigious team tournament.
"So I certainly am a part of that and that's part of being a team. I needed to go get my points for my team and I didn't do that,” he added. "Hopefully I can do that this week, and hopefully the other guys can do the same and we can get this thing rolling”.
The 39th edition of the tournament will be held at the Medinah Country Club – the same event where Woods won two of his 14 major golf championships.
Therefore, it is now a great chance for the 36-year-old to end his poor streak in the team event.
