Tiger Woods ready for the British Open victory along with the number one spot in the world
Last year, the 14-time major champion Tiger Woods was struggling to return to his form, which he did with a win in the Chevron World Challenge in December, 2011.
Thereafter, he did the same on the PGA Tour, as he ended the two-year winless streak with a victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard.
It was just a start of a great season ahead of him and he won another two events, the Memorial Tournament and AT&T National.
As a result, he became the only player in the 2012 PGA Tour season so far to record three victories.
However, the golf giant is still under scrutiny, as the critics think that without a victory in any of the major golf championships, he will not be able to regain his lost glory.
He finished tied for the 40th position in the opening major of the year, the Masters Tournament. It was his worst ever performance at Augusta National.
The US Open saw him take a share of the 21st position on the leaderboard. Now, he is preparing for the British Open, slated to start from July 19, 2012.
According to the betting odds, he is currently the hot favourite for a win at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club because of his recent form.
He is eyeing not only the British Open title, but also, the world number one spot, as the victory can help him regain the top place in the Official World Golf Rankings.
"I just try and put myself there," he told a news conference. "I think that if I continue putting myself there enough times then I'll win major championships".
While talking to the media, he stated that he was completely fit and ready to rule the world of golf once again.
"First of all I had to go through that whole process of just getting healthy again," he said. "Being banged up and missing major championships because of it in a couple-year stretch there wasn't a whole lot of fun".
"I missed four majors just because I was injured. I figure if I'm healthy, then I can prepare properly for major championships and I can get myself there".
