Tiger Woods records another good finish in the 2012 PGA Tour Playoffs
The former world number one Tiger Woods once again missed out on the chance to record his fourth PGA Tour victory of the season. He finished tied for the fourth position, at the BMW Championship, on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
Despite making a poor start to the 2012 PGA Tour Playoffs, with a tied 38th position in The Barclays, Woods bounced back strongly with a third-place finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship two weeks ago.
Last week, he was among the hot favourites for a win in the BMW Championship. He proved his betting odds through a stunning display of the game at the Crooked Stick Golf Club.
However, a slight putting failure in the final round forced him to stay three strokes behind the current world number one, Rory McIlroy, who clinched his second Playoffs title in a row.
The 14-time major champion created a number of birdie chances on day four. However, he failed to finish them strongly, as many of his putts lipped out of the cups.
“I rolled it really well today,” he explained. “Had a lot of lip-outs. Unfortunately the putts just didn't fall in”.
Still, he managed to post five birdies against a lone bogey in the final round for a 17-under par tournament score.
He also admitted that he was disappointed on missing the birdie chances on the four par-five holes during the final round.
“With the pins, we saw the dots for today, and it was -- it could be done. It could be done,” he said. “Because the greens were so soft, and if you take care of the par-5s, throw in a couple more, all of a sudden you have your number”.
In the meantime, Woods also praised the way McIlroy played in the past few weeks. He stated that McIlroy did not lose his temperament at any moment and kept on carding birdies throughout the tournament.
“He's going out there and is up near the lead and posts a good number. He's doing the things he needs to do, and as he said yesterday, he's feeling very confident about his game,” he said.
