Tiger Woods recovers from his Achilles tendon injury – Golf News
The 14-time major winner, Tiger Woods, returned to practice on Friday and confirmed his return to the game through the two-day Tavistock Cup exhibition, scheduled from March 19 to 20, 2012, at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando.
He participated in the event’s first round on Monday and did not show any sign of his left Achilles tendon injury that forced him to withdraw from the Cadillac Championship early in this month.
Just after Woods teed off at the 12th hole on the final day of the Cadillac Championship, he felt tightness in his Achilles tendon.
Therefore, he decided not to continue playing on the course to avoid any further damage from taking place.
A day later, he had a thorough checkup with his doctor and confirmed that it was just a mild strain, which will recover soon.
On Monday, he put himself to test and teamed up with Justin Rose to play against the pair of Bubba Watson and Charles Howell III in the match play event.
On the very first hole, Woods made a perfect tee shot to divide the fairway in two parts. His second shot landed just two feet off the pin and made an easy birdie putt in the end.
It was a perfect start for him and he did not show any signs of the pain in his left Achilles tendon throughout his round.
He moved around the course easily, and expressed his pleasure on getting completely fit prior to the first major event of the year.
This also confirmed his participation in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, slated to take place from March 22 to 25, 2012.
This will be the last event before the Masters and Woods has a tremendous track record in the event. He recorded six victories in the event throughout his career.
Therefore, he is no doubt a strong contender for a win at Bay Hill.
Moreover, if he clears the tournament without any problem to his injury, he has a very good chance to make a great run at the Augusta National because of his experience and excellent track record in the event.
