Tiger Woods remains in contention at the Deutsche Bank Championship
The only three-time PGA Tour winner in 2012, Tiger Woods, remained in contention at the Deutsche Bank Championship, as he posted a three-under par 68 and shared the third spot, entering the final round.
Woods, who aims to surge to the top in the FedEx Cup standings with a win at TPC Boston, recorded two birdies each on the front and back nine of the course, against a lone bogey, on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
He now settles six strokes behind the leader Louis Oosthuizen, who posted an impressive run of consecutive seven birdies for an eight-under par 63. Oosthuizen’s overall score, entering the final round, was 19-under par.
Woods admitted that he did not display a good game on the greens and missed several birdie chances. He stated that he could have earned a better place on the leaderboard, if he had availed all the opportunities.
“With the conditions like this, we're going to have to shoot some good numbers. It's definitely gettable,” he said.
“The goal was to put up 15,” he added. “Put up 15 and I was at the worst going to be five back, and that's certainly gettable. Right now, what am I, six back, so obviously I need to put together a really nice round tomorrow”.
He also praised the way Oosthuizen and Keegan Bradley played during the third round. Bradley also posted an eight-under par score.
“Louis played a good round, Keegan played a good round early,” he said. “You can post 4, 5-, 6-under par on that front nine if you get it going early. The back nine is certainly gettable, as well”.
According to Woods, beating the six-stroke margin is possible in Norton and he is optimistic about his performance on Monday.
He stated that the location of pins allow the player to post some good scores. Therefore, he can be the one who will get to the top by recording some good birdie putts on the final day.
