Tiger Woods returns to the field of the Deutsche Bank Championship
The 2011 US PGA Tour Playoffs witnessed the two-time FedEx Cup champion Tiger Woods missing the one-month swing, after failing to make it to the top-125 in the FedEx Cup points list before The Barclays.
It is essential for every player to list among the top-125, in order to qualify for the first of the four tournaments. This year, Woods was the leading player in the FedEx Cup points list and eligible to play the whole month.
While talking to the PGA Tour’s official website ahead of the Deutsche Bank Championship, he expressed his pleasure of being back in the field once again.
“It feels good to be back,” he said. “Unfortunately last year I didn't make the Playoffs at all and missed out on four big events. It feels good to at least have played well enough this year to basically secure a spot all the way through to East Lake”.
“Looking forward to this week. The golf course is in absolute perfect shape. I mean, it's awesome right now,” he added. “It'll dry out a little bit come the rest of the week and get a little bit faster and more difficult”.
Woods has been playing brilliantly right from the start of the 2012 PGA Tour season. Despite failing to win a major event this year, he remained in contention in almost every event that he played.
Prior to the start of the Playoffs, Woods played a total of 15 events and recorded six top-10 finishes and 10 top-25 finishes. In addition to that, he managed to register three victories – most by any player in the 2012 PGA Tour season.
Because of his great track record in the past few months, Woods also ranks among the hot favourites for a win this week.
According to the golf commentators, Woods needs to bring consistency in his game, if he wants to take the FedEx Cup trophy home for the third time in his career.
In each of the last two tournaments that he played, he was in contention, entering the final rounds. However, faltering performances ruined his chances of the fourth victory of the season.
