Tiger Woods says he has a lot of work to do
After a disappointing 44th place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open, Tiger Woods claimed that he could perform better if he revised his playing tactics. At Torrey Pines last weekend, the ex-top cat of golf finished the tournament 15 shots behind Bubba Watson; the winner of the event. The 14-time major championship winner, Woods, could not work his magic on Sunday, despite having won seven times on the course.
Woods has been working on his swing with Canadian coach Sean Foley since August, but his old swing still resurfaces at times. The frustrated player was not at all happy with his performance last weekend, as Tiger often subdued under pressure during the tourney.
"They're very different swings," Woods told reporters. "It's tough. It's one of the things I struggled with when I worked with Hank (Haney) trying to relearn some new things and going away from what I did with Butch (Harmon).”
This is the fourth change in swing that Woods has been working on ever since he started his professional career in 1996. Even though the change is yet to occur, working with Foley has surely improved the player’s game. Tiger’s 2010 campaign was disastrous, as he did not win a single event.
Last weekend was the first time that Tiger finished outside the Top 10 at Torrey Pines. Despite the humiliating finish, the player said that his goals were the same. Woods is certainly eager to make a good comeback.
Experts believe that Tiger's looking for consistency in his swing in the upcoming tournaments. Apart from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour, which will start on 7 February and end on 13 February; Woods has not committed to any other tournament yet.
The Dubai Desert Classic will be a battlefield where Tiger will face Lee Westwood, who dethroned the former world number one golf player. Westwood replaced Woods at the top of the rankings on 31 October, 2010, thus snatching a rank that belonged to Woods for five years. Along with Westwood, Martin Kaymer, who occupies the third spot in the world rankings, will also be playing next week on the Majlis course at the Emirates Golf Club. As the Top 3 golfers march onto the greens, fans across the globe will witness with an enthralling session of master-golf for seven days.
