Tiger Woods says he is ready for the US Open despite his knee and achilles injury issues
Tiger Woods says that he is ready for the US Open despite having a knee problem that ruled him out of the Players Championship. The former world number-one disclosed his intentions via his official website.
He said, “Aggravating my injury is very disappointing. I'll do whatever is necessary to play in the U.S. Open, and I'm hopeful I can be there to compete”.
Woods reinjured his left knee and achilles tendon in the first round of the Players Championship, which is the fifth flagship event of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour.
He twisted the tendon during a shot that sent a shooting pain in his left calf making it stiff. The player faced problem while walking that ultimately resulted in his withdrawal from the tournament.
With US Open approaching, speculations started arising that Woods won’t be able to compete in the tournament, owing to the persistence of his injury.
To eradicate the rumours, Woods discussed his health issues and said that his injury would not create resistance in his plans. Woods stated that he did not aggravate the damage to his leg so he could play in the US Open.
Woods clarified his plans but he did not confirm anything about the recovery of his knee. He said that he would like to give his very best, but he could not comment on the speed of his recovery.
The 35-year-old added that he had been taking the medication, soft tissue treatment and cold-water therapy as suggested by the doctors, but the problem kept on aggravating and it was irritating.
The 14-time major winner stressed that he was not certain about playing in the Memorial Tournament. The tournament will take place in the first week of June.
Since Woods will be busy in strengthening his leg, he won’t be able to take part in the tournament which is the last stop before the US Open. Similar practice was followed by the player in 2010, when he returned to competitive golf after a gap of five months.
Woods will play in the US Open, starting on June 16 and running through June 19 at Congressional Country Club.
The tournament is the second major of the season and if Woods fails to win it, his dry spell will extend to 20 majors without victory.
