Tiger Woods seizes 11th spot in TPC Boston with a likely Ryder team selection
Tiger Woods wasn’t the winner at the end of 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship’s final round yesterday but instead he managed to seize the 11th spot on the leader board with a 10 under.
The World Number 1, however, still retains his crown and makes way to the BMW Championship 2010 that comes third in the FedEx playoffs’ list. This Championship will take place in Chicago next week and the pre-requisite of making a cut into it is to fall in the top 60s of the 2010 PGA TOUR FedEx Cup Playoff Points list. Tiger currently stands at the 51st spot which means that he will be seen next week playing in Chicago.
In the last one week, Tiger performed remarkably well and this can be proven from his stats that show the figures of 72-65-69-68. True that his game took a dip on the first day but it wasn’t his play but the poor weather conditions which could be held responsible for it. A hurricane had persisted for two days that delayed the Deutsche Bank Championship. Woods couldn’t cope with it and he finished the first day with one over par.
However, he picked up his game during the next round and carried it all the way to the last. The results were quite satisfactory as he finished in the Top 11 spots. Although, Tiger Woods shared this position with six more players including Matt Kucher, he still did a good job. Earlier, before the final round many speculations were there which included questions such as; will tiger make it to the next leg of the playoff series? Or will he keep up to his number 1 ranking?
However, the answers retrieved after 18th hole were yes for both! It was that Yes, Tiger is all set for the next event as he has managed to rise from the 62nd spot to the 51st after posting 17 birdies. Secondly, two big players who were a big threat to Tiger’s Number 1 title also got eliminated. Phil Mickelson finished the final round with a 5-over 76 and Steve Stricker shot an even par 71 which means that both players statically lost the ground on which they were supposed to stand and snatch the title away from Woods.
Moreover, with a result of 3 under 68, Tiger has also earned the chances of getting a call from Captain of American Ryder cup team. He expressed optimism that he will get the wild card. On the other hand, Ryder Team Captain Corey Pavin has said that he is all set to break the news to the World Number 1 of being selected to the team. Well, this news won’t be a surprise as Tiger is the most recommended player for the wild card even though he is without a win throughout this season. Colin Montgomerie has also asked Pavin to keep Woods in the team as his name would add sensation to the whole Ryder Cup Fiesta.
