Tiger Woods shares the lead at the WGC - Cadillac Championship
Tiger Woods is roaring once again, as he fired a six-under par 66, in the opening round of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship, to share the five-way lead, on Thursday, March 7, 2013.
The Cadillac Championship is the second WGC of the season, and is being staged at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral, featuring some of the best PGA Tour and the European Tour players from different parts of the world.
Woods, who won the Farmers Insurance Open for the seventh time in his career this season, fired nine birdies against three bogeys to mark a strong start to his campaign in Miami.
Starting on the back nine of the course, the 14-time major champion and current world number two birdied the 11th and the 12th hole, before conceding a bogeys on very next two holes that he played.
Thereafter, he drained five birdies putts, against a lone bogey, over the next eight holes that he played.
He the added another two shots to his scorecard, by scoring birdies on the seventh and the eighth hole, to join Freddie Jacobson, Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell and Bubba Watson on top of the leaderboard.
Talking to the reporters after completing his round, the former world number one said that the playing conditional at Doral were really easy and wind did not have any effect on his performance. He now expects the wind to blow harder during the remaining
three rounds.
"The wind was up but not like it normally is here," Woods said. "It's probably the easier wind. We played some of the par-fives downwind so that makes a big difference”.
"I don't think we are going to get all four days like this. Today was as easy as it gets around this place,” he added.
The world number one Rory McIlroy, in the meantime, market a disappointing start to his campaign, as he faltered for a one-over par 73, to share the 50th position on the leaderboard.
Phil Mickelson, who secured his 41st PGA Tour victory last month at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, fired a five-under par 67, to share the sixth spot on the leaderboard.
