Tiger Woods shoots back at Brandel Chamblee for his reckless criticism ahead of the Players championship
Tiger Woods finally decided to face the media ahead of the Players Championship this week and answered many of the questions that have been bothering the media men for quite a while.
It turned out that Woods’ decision to face the media was a bad choice as it triggered heated debate regarding many of Woods’ critics who have been lashing out on the former world number one.
One of the critics, Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee who have come out with scathing criticism of Woods’ swing coach Sean Foley had said earlier that Woods should fire Foley with immediate effect after his colossal fall in the Masters last month.
Chamblee said, "Simply, he needs to fire Sean (Foley), call Butch (Harmon). I think that would get it done right there”.
Foley joined the Woods’ camp some two years ago after his former swing coach Hank Haney decided to part ways with the 14-major winner.
Butch Harmon, one of the most celebrated coaches in the sport, remained associated with Woods from the years 1993-2004 and is often called as the real magician behind Woods’ swift rise in the sport.
Woods, who was attending the press conference after a break of almost two months, regarded Chamblee’s comments as reckless.
He said, “I can understand that everyone has an opinion, and he's entitled to his. But he's no longer playing anymore, so, so be it. I think if you're a player, we've all gone through this. You're not going to play well every week”.
This however, does not go without saying that Woods has not won the Players in the last nine years.
Woods missed the cut in Wells Fargo Championship a fortnight ago and has won just one PGA Tour title in two years under the guidance of Foley.
Many of the legendary golfers of the past have pointed fingers on Foley’s attempts to reinvent Woods’ swing.
The former world number one surged into contention at the closing end of the last season when he performed well in the Australian open and the President’s Cup.
He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill last month after a gruesome lapse of 30 months and was one of the strongest contenders in the Masters this year.
