Tiger Woods shows signs of recovery – Golf news
The concluding round of the WGC Cadillac Championship was a pleasant day for Tiger Woods’ fans as the former World Number One flicked the ball brilliantly, indicating a possible comeback on the horizon. His strong finish at Doral with 6-under 66, included
some lofty iron shots that landed in the exact spots that Woods had anticipated. This was his best finish of the year and the 14-Major winner was more than happy on the occasion.
“It's definitely getting better, no doubt,” he said. “I'm putting the pieces together. Everything is kind of shaping up and heading the right direction, which is good. And peaking at the right time, right for the Tavistock Cup.”
Woods was dressed in his trade mark deep red of the finals. He pulled in seven birdies with just one bogey, marking his first top ten finishes after a long time. He has never finished out of the top ten in his previous appearances at Doral and has won three
times. When asked about his future plans of possibly winning the next month’s Masters at Augusta, he cheerfully replied, ‘oh yeah’, with a big smile across his face. Woods definitely is contemplating a major comeback for the Tavistock Cup which begins on his
home course, Isleworth, next Monday.
It might be a bit premature to foresee a comeback based on just a few nice shots with his irons, not to mention the many bad shots he played in the day. One of his snap hook, a 3-wood and a pop-up, all combined, did not go further than 300 yards, raising
many eyebrows. His former coach, Butch Harmon, thrashed Woods on the shots and said, “The drives at the second and 14th were a shock. This is Tiger Woods, not a Nationwide Tour player trying to get his card. If I'm Tiger Woods, I'm a little frustrated I'm
not seeing more consistency.”
A frustrated Woods then switched over to Nike Method dumping his most trusted putter, the Scotty Cameron. Woods’ stated that he practices with the Method at home when the greens are slower and grainer.
The Dutch, Thomas Bjorn, one of his old friends, played alongside Woods on the final day. “I just thought his iron play was phenomenal today,” Bjorn said, “His distance control was there. He gave himself a lot of opportunities. It just looks like he needs
to hit fairways. He putted all right today. In Tucson his short game was off for some reason. That's what I saw. I think that was just an off day. That's not going to leave him. He's one of the best in the world. He's obviously still got some work to do, but
the Masters is probably coming at a pretty good time for him, to be honest.”
With the current developments, it would be interesting to watch the most celebrated player of the sport’s history making a comeback in the approaching season.
