Tiger Woods steadily ends the first day of the U.S. PGA Championship
The first day of the most awaited major of the year, the U.S. PGA Championship finally comes to an end. The best players of the world and thousands of fans have gathered at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Ocean Course for this prestigious tournament.
The four day event teed off on the 9th of August and is supposed to end on the 12th of August.
The best in the world have gathered to impress the spectators and to fight for this year’s last major. The list of players also includes the American professional golfer, Tiger Woods.
Woods has already bagged 14 major titles. He is looking for another major this weekend so that he can get closer to Jack Nicklaus’ world record of 18 major titles.
Tiger Woods is also on the number 2 spot in the official world golf ranking, just one spot behind English professional golfer, Luke Donald.
He might also be looking to close on the gap between himself and Donald, and will even try to occupy that number one spot once again.
Woods had a decent enough first round. He had a magnificent start, as he teed off with two consecutive birdies on the first and second hole.
Later on, on the front nine, he carded a bogey and another birdie on the fourth and eighth hole, respectively. These made his score two-under par on the front nine.
His back nine was not as good as his front nine. He carded three birdies on the twelfth, fifteenth and eighteenth hole. Unfortunately for Woods, he also scored two more bogeys on the thirteenth and fourteenth hole.
There were no eagles or double bogeys throughout the day. These made his score one-under par on the back nine and his total score climbed up to three-under par.
Woods is currently tied on the 14th position with ten other players. He is just three strokes behind the leader of the first round.
Woods was happy with his first round performance. In an interview he said, “Anything in the 60s is going to be a good start in a major championship. And I’m right there”.
