Tiger Woods struggles at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance – Golf news
Tiger Woods blames poor playing conditions for his below average performance in the first two rounds of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance, as he is currently sharing the 46th spot, with the second round
still to complete.
In his first seven PGA Tour starts this season, the 14-time major champion recorded five top-five finishes, including four victories, and regained the Crown of world number one player.
Due to his stunning performances, he was listed among the hot favourites for a victory at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. However, he failed to bring cheers on his fans, as he is currently holds a one-over par two-round score.
The opening round witnessed him making a slow start, as he recorded a one-under par score, to finish six strokes off the pace set by Charl Schwartzel. In the second round, Woods started well, as he birdied the fifth and the seventh
hole.
However, he once again lost control over his game and conceded two bogeys and a double bogey, without adding a single shot, thereafter.
Talking to the PGA Tour’s official website, he said that the course conditions were really difficult and it was not an easy task to create birdie chances. According to him, a little mistake can make you suffer a bogey at any hole.
“It's a little rough out there. It's not that hard to make bogeys and doubles on this golf course. You miss it in the wrong spot, get the wrong gust, it's tough. We had a few shots in our group that ended up in special interesting
spots,” he said.
“I had some interesting samples on the back nine. I had a gust get me on 15 there,” he added. We had some‑‑ missed about a foot on the 10th hole. A couple of others that were missed by a yard here, a yard there. A golf course like
this you can get penalized.”
Bill Haas, in the meantime, fired a five-under par 67, to take a three-stroke clubhouse lead over a group of four players that included Matt Kuchar, Schwartzel, Bubba Watson and Kyle Stanley.
