Tiger Woods takes home another PGA Tour title at The Players Championship
Is there anyone who still doubts Tiger Woods ability to add more titles to his resume? Is there anyone who still thinks that Woods’ career has come to an end? There should not be anyone, as Woods has managed to win his fourth PGA Tour title of the season,
in his just seventh start on the tour this season.
The 14-time major champion started his 2013 PGA Tour campaign with a victory at the Farmers Insurance Open. Thereafter, he performed averagely at the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship and the Honda Classic.
However, he did not lose his confidence, and bounced back strongly with victories at the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard.
This also allowed him to become world number one player for the first time in three years. He then came close to recording his 15th major title victory at the Masters Tournament. However, he had to settle for a tied fourth position in the end.
Entering The Players Championship last week, he was considered as one of the hot favourites to record a victory in the tournament. In the meantime, his average record in the tournament was also raising questions for his ability to finish the event on top
of the leaderboard.
He started his campaign at TPC Sawgrass with a five-under par 67 in each of the first two rounds, followed by a 71 in the third round to share the lead with Sergio Garcia. He then held his nerves, and posted a 70, in the final round, to finish the event
two strokes better than Kevin Streelman, Jeff Maggert and David Lingmerth.
"It was a tough battle," Woods said. "This golf course has been a little bit tricky over the years, and I'm not the only one who's struggled with it. It's a tough course. Fortunately, I've been playing really well, and the last tournament I played in, I
played really well. So coming here I was pretty confident in what I was doing”.
" … I hit it so good today, it was fun. I hit it high, low, left to right, right to left, whatever I wanted, except for that tee shot at 14,” he added.
