Tiger Woods takes home his 75th PGA Tour title at Torrey Pines
Tiger Woods conceded two bogeys, along with a double bogey, over the last five holes of the Farmers Insurance Open. Still, he managed to take home the prestigious PGA Tour title, his 75th of the career.
Tiger Woods carded a 14-under par tournament score, four shots better than Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater, to make a stunning start to his 2013 campaign on the PGA Tour.
The tournament was being staged at the Torrey Pines’ South Course, featuring a number of prominent names from different parts of the world.
It was Woods seventh victory in the history of the tournament and was his eighth win at Torrey Pines, as he also took home the 2008 edition of the US Open, which was staged at the same course.
Entering the final round, Woods held a four-stroke lead over Brad Fritsch. He then made a strong start to his final-round campaign, as he birdied three of the first six holes that he played.
Thereafter, he added another shot to his scorecard on the 13th hole, to extend his lead to eight strokes, over Snedeker and Teater.
Afterwards, the American star slowed down and made few mistakes on the course. However, the mistakes only decided his margin of victory, rather than providing any chance to his competitors to surpass him on the leaderboard.
“In the end I just started losing my patience.  It was so slow out there,” he said of his mistakes. “We played nine holes in just over three hours and three of them are par‑3s.  That's not fast. I had an 8‑shot lead.  So just needed to stay up right, and
I was going to be fine”.
Talking to the reporters after winning the tournament, he expressed his pleasure in marking a scintillating start to his campaign in the 2013 golf season.
“I'm excited the way I played all week,” Woods said. “I hit the ball well -- pretty much did everything well and built myself a nice little cushion. I had some mistakes at the end, but all my good play before that allowed me to afford those mistakes”.
