Tiger Woods takes positives out of the US Open and enters the AT&T National
The 14-time major champion Tiger Woods will return to action, after taking a week off, following the shared 21st position in the 2012 US Open. He will tee off at the AT&T National at the Congressional Country Club, on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
While talking to the PGA Tour website on Tuesday, he told that he was happy to return to the field after two years, as he missed the US Open last year held at Congressional.
“It's great to be back here at Congressional,” Woods said. “As everyone knows, I missed the U.S. Open last year, but we're back here after a couple years”.
While playing the US Open a couple of weeks ago, Woods had the lead after two rounds at the Olympic Club. However, he slipped down the leaderboard after carding 75 and 73 in the final two rounds.
Therefore, it was a huge disappointment for his fans who were desperately waiting for their hero to record the 15th major title win of his career.
On the other hand, Woods wants to take positives out of his performance throughout the event.
He told that he was pleased with his ball striking technique in the event. However, the only thing that created problems for him was chipping and putting.
According to him, he was not as good enough in putting as he was during the Memorial Tournament.
"I think that overall, the way I struck the golf ball, I was very pleased by that,” he said. “I didn't particularly chip or putt well that week, something that I had done at Memorial. I just didn't do that week, and obviously at the Open, that's just one
of the things you have to do, and I didn't do that. I didn't make anything from 15 or 20 feet”.
By and large, Woods’ performance in the upcoming event means a great deal to him, as he wants to keep performing well. He is hopeful that his form can help him record a victory in the remaining two major championships of the season.
He will tee off on the front nine of the course in the afternoon at 12:50pm local time.
