Tiger Woods talks of outlawing Belly Putters across the board
Every sport has had its fair share of controversies. Cricket has gone through the claims of ball tempering, and football has gone through with issue of goal line technology. However, there is one controversy in golf that has been going on for the last couple
of years.
The use of Belly Putters has come under question from numerous current and ex professionals, but the issue never seems to subside.
The popularity of Belly Putters is increasing day by day, as they are constantly giving worthwhile results to the pros.
This debate started off with Keegan Bradley winning the PGA Championship and when Webb Simpson clinched his maiden US Open, things really heated up.
There are very strong signs from the higher ups with regards to anchorship. Rumors are coming that anchorship will be completely banned by 2016.
However, one question that will still remain is whether this law will only be applicable to professionals or will it be applicable across the board?
Tiger Woods, in the past, has spoken openly against the use of Belly Putters. Some people have labeled this under the banner of cheat.
Recently, Woods was speaking at a press conference about his World Challenge event. He was of the idea that anchorship should be banned across the board, it must not only be limited to the professionals.
"Well, I believe it should be the same across the board. It shouldn't be just -- I think it should be a global rules change is how I look at it," said the fourteen-time major winner.
Even Davis Love III has said that these clubs should be banned, as they give an unfair advantage to the players using them.
Belly Putters are currently used by those players who have trouble putting with the traditional clubs. If we take a look at Adam Scott, the Australian was an average player before he switched over to Belly Putter.
It is not being asserted that he is a cheat or anything, but it is just that the club he uses gives an added advantage to him while putting.
Just like there is no remedy for a bad golf swing, there should not be a remedy for a bad stroke.
