Tiger Woods to lose World Number One title in 18 days?
The deadline has been set for Tiger Woods to give up his World Number One title. The date is October 31st, 2010.
The Official World Golf Ranking has set the new date for the revision of the ranking and according to them; Lee Westwood will be the new World Number One. This date would have come sooner if Westy would not have taken off from the Portugal Masters, which
is scheduled to be held next month.
The current world number two Westwood hurt his tendon last Thursday while coming down the seventh tee of Kingsbarns at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Due to this injury, the player had to call off his next trip to the Portugal Masters.
The Englishman has his chance of reaching the top of the rankings even if he does not return to the course this month provided that Woods stays home till that time. So far, Woods has no intention of picking the clubs till November 4th, 2010 for
the HSBC Championship.
The 34-year-old newly divorced Tiger Woods recently gave a commendable performance at the Celtic Manor, where he defeated Francesco Molinari in the singles. Still, Woods is winless this year and not much is expected from him either as he has lost all those
tournaments where he once held records.
Woods has retained the title for five years now but this time his chances of success are few, these too are dropping by the increasing possibilities for Lee Westwood. On the other hand, Westy also isn’t sure about his comeback. He wants to be 100% fit before
the Maters in April, 2011. So, he is concentrating on his long term plans rather than the upcoming championship. He told the reporters that he wasn’t sure about his return but hopefully, he will be seen in November.
He added that his leg has been troubling him for some time now so he cannot take more chances on it. Lee said, "I haven't had a chance to get it healed, tried my hardest to get back to the Ryder Cup fully fit last week and got back to 80 per cent which I
thought was good enough. That was a tough week back then."
