He is getting knee surgery and could be out for 6-9 months. Is it good for golf? Will you miss him?

  1. well US Open he managed...but it's looking like the knee op he needs is going to keep him out for rest of season!!!! so unlikely for Ryder Cup this year!

wait til he gets to Celtic Manor 2010 -we'll give him a welcome to remember haha!

  2. we'll his in risk of losing his place, it's good for other golfers nearing his rank obviously not good for himself or his fans and nike (his supporter) dont really watch golf but yea, i salute him

  3. Ummm...he just won the US Open.  As for the Ryder Cup, I think that the American Team will do better without him.

  4. For many folks, me included, Tiger is the only reason I watch a golf tournament.  I took vacation the week of the US Open and left at noon the following Monday so I could watch the playoff live.  There's something about his mental toughness that I can't get enough of.  It will be interesting to see if someone steps up the remainder of the year.

  5. i agree with pancakes. Nobody will watch golf anymore now that the star is gone. Golf is different then other sports, if A-Rod got hurt, baseball goes on. If Tom Brady was out for the season, football continues. If Kobe and LeBron were out for the year, the NBA would go on. But because golf is an individual sport, then its more important. The only thing I can think of that would help golf's ratings, is if Phil started to win some tournaments.

  6. I think the rest of the players on tour will miss him a lot, because of the atmosphere he generates when he plays in a tournament. But they will also be thinking, " i have a chance now" when he is not there. I do think he will be missed in the Ryder Cup, because he generates that atmosphere. He is sensible enough to understand, that playing any more with his knee the way it is, would not be any good for his long term future in the game. This way he can get his op out the way, and come back stronger. Tiger woods has taken the game of golf to the next level, and will take over the mantle of Arnold and Jack. I for one will miss him for the next few months, he brings that extra something to the game for the watching millions.

And last of all, it could be a blessing for the European team in the Ryder Cup

  7. Golf will go on, it survived before him and it will survive during an injury break, and it will survive after he retires as well.  Give TW his credit, but don't think golf will expire at his will.

By the way... some people are commenting how much this crushes the Ryder Cup team... He's a great player, the best right now, but his Ryder Cup record is horrendous, this could be a blessing in disguise.

  8. this is really sad! 6-9 months will be really long. no, this is baddd for golf!!

  9. I loved golf before Tiger, I would love it without him.

It is a shame, the injury being so serious, but he will be back.

Its not good for golf, but its not the end of the world.

  10. you know what I am looking foreward to?

the next 9 months will be tiger free.

  11. He already played in the U.S. Open.  But, yes he will be out for the rest of the season.  It is terrible for golf, and I will not watch any other tournaments because of it.

  12. I honestly don't see what everyone's issue with Tiger is. So, what if he is good, i don't think people should hate him for it. And I agree, ratings on golf will go down without it's star golfer in action.

  13. It'll be the last 2 majors, the British Open and the PGA Championship, as well as the Ryder.

It won't be good for golf at all. Crowds won't be nearly as big since they know Tiger won't be there. I go to the Buick Open usually every year, and last year was nowhere near as usual when Tiger's around. I was hoping to go to the PGA at Oakland Hills, but I won't regardless of Tiger being there or not.

There's now an automatic European victory in the Ryder...
