Tiger Woods to partner with Tony Romo in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am – Golf News
Tony Romo, a professional footballer on the National Football League (NFL), the American professional football’s premier league, will be pairing with the living legend of golf, Tiger Woods, for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February, this year.
The tournament, slated to take place from February 6 to 12, 2012, at California, is a recognised event, sanctioned with the high-profile PGA Tour. It brings together professional and amateur golfers on the course, by pairing them in teams.
Rumours about the possible partnership of both the players were being circulated a few days ago.
However, it was finally confirmed on January 17, 2012, that both the players will play as a team in the 2012 event.
Since the tournament offers ranking points, Woods’s scores will be counted towards his PGA Tour title.
This will be Romo’s third appearance in the tournament, as he partnered with John Daly in 2010 and 2011.
Woods confirmed to play the event for the first time since he appeared in the 2002 edition of the tournament.
The 14-time major champion tied for the 12th position in his last appearance. Moreover, his only win came in 2000, when he outclassed his opponents while entering the final round with a seven-stroke deficit, surging to the top position in no time.
It was one of his best seasons. In the same year, he did what no player has ever done in the history of the golf: winning the US Open with a 15-stroke margin over Ernie Els and Miguel Ángel Jiménez.
American Professional golfer, Darren Andrew Points, and renowned actor and comedian, Bill Murray, won the tournament in 2011 and have teamed up again to defend the title this year.
Tiger Woods is optimistic about his performance at the Pebble Beach, as it will be his first event of the 2012 PGA Tour season.
Apart from this, he will officially kick off his 2012 golf season in Abu Dhabi by participating in the HSBC Championship, starting from January 26, 2012.
It will be a great chance for Woods to win the event early in the season and keep the winning momentum going which he achieved in last year’s Chevron World Challenge. It was his first win in the last two years.
