Tiger Woods to promote new Nike prototype golf shoes at WGC Bridgestone Invitational
Tiger Woods will not only be stepping into the WGC Bridgestone Invitational with a new caddie, but will also be wearing a new range of Nike golf shoes which he will be endorsing as a Nike ambassador.
The newly developed high-tech shoe is from Nike’s FREE Technology which it has successfully incorporated in the other sports and will now be launching their product of golf shoes. Woods will be wearing a prototype and the product will be launched on commercial
scale later.
Woods, while talking to the media also made a point to mention his new footwear in a bid to promote the new design.
“The FREE technology is something that I wear every day, and some of the things, some of the aspects, I love training in it, I love running in it, lifting in it, so why can’t I play golf in it,” he said.
The FREE Technology broke headlines in 2004 and has received wide recognition since then. Nike went over to incorporate it in their training shoes but restrained from launching a golf shoe until recently. The technology involves a dynamic outsole which can
mimic the movements on the sportsman who is wearing them besides being lightweight and durable.
The outer sole of the shoe is made of polyurethane coated stretch fabric, which is usually used in the manufacturing of Nike’s Basketball shoes while the outer layer is designed to provide stability during the high torque swings.
“This will help give Tiger greater stability as he addresses the ball. The freedom of movement that natural motion technology delivers will also allow more power to be released through the swing rather than through the body – which can happen when your feet
are too static,” said Tobie Hatfield of Nike.
Woods has been with Nike for a long period of time and the sports giant has stood alongside Woods even in times of adversity. Woods lost many of his lucrative endorsements over the course of two years including Gatorade, Gillette, and Accenture. He was recently
seen in a Japanese commercial where he was seen promoting a pain reliever made out of Japanese herbal medicines.
Woods will be returning to mainstream golf after a lapse of 11 consecutive weeks. He suffered a severe knee injury at the Players Championship earlier in the season and went under a prolonged rehab to recover. His left knee has undergone four wide open surgeries
and doctors had already warned of permanent damage in case he refuses to follow their advice.
Woods not only missed the two major of the year but several high profile events in the middle as well. He has now dropped to number 28th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
