Tiger Woods tweets he will do everything to get into the US Open
Three-time winner of the US Open, Tiger Woods tweeted on Tuesday that he would do anything to make an appearance in the US Open, which will take place at the Congressional Country Club Bethesda, Madison from June 16–19, 2011.
He wrote, “Bummed that my left leg has me on the sidelines, but I want, and expect, to be at the US Open. Will do all I can to get there.”
Woods has been suffering from a broken Achilles tendon and swollen calf, since the 2008 US Open. He recovered from the problem in between, but the problem with the tendon came back in the third round of the 2011 Masters, while
Woods was taking his second shot at the 17th hole.
To cure the problem, the veteran took a break from competitive golf for three weeks. In this time, he missed the Heritage Tournament, Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo Championship, which resulted in his fall on the Official World
Golf Rankings. The veteran slipped from the fifth place and stopped at the eight.
However, with the Players Championship holding significance on the Professional Golf Association tour, the player decided to join the field at TPC Sawgrass. The winner of 2001 Players Championship intended to play all the four
rounds, but with the resurgence of the pain in the left leg, Woods pulled out of the event.
Woods spoke to the press and told that he was going on another small break to heal his ankle. The statement given by Woods aggravated presumption in the mind of critics, that Woods won’t be able to play in the US Open as well.
To eliminate such presumptions, Woods wrote on Twitter that he was looking forward to make an appearance in the second major of the season. He explained that he would give his best to eradicate the problem and emphasized on the
word, ‘expect’, when he mentioned his intentions to compete in the tournament, which will be attended by the top guns of the world.
This will be the first US Open, which Woods might miss, if he does not recover from the problem in his knee.
