Tiger Woods unable to meet expectations in the first round of the Honda Classic
All the previews were in favour of the American player, Tiger Woods, but he finished round-one of the Honda Classic with a below average performance.
The 36-year-old professional golf player was among the top-10 favourites of the experts. However, he was unable to score high, at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens on Thursday.
Davis Love is the current leader of the tournament, scoring a 6-under 64, and Woods is seven strokes behind him. He unexpectedly scored 1-over par and 71 strokes.
This was his worst performance in the current season. He started the year by playing at the European Tour and has never delivered such a devastating performance so far.
He scored three birdies at the Honda Classic, but four bogeys took him down. He failed to meet the expectations of many spectators and experts as well.
He is tied for the 68th position and now there is a long way to go before he can land among the top 10 leaders of the tournament.
"I hit good shots, and unfortunately I just picked some bad lines,” Woods said
He added, "And also, I didn't get up and down either a couple of times, a couple easy up-and-downs, I blew those. So a round that should have probably been 2 or 3 under par quickly turned into 1 over".
The former world No. 1 has not won any title since 2009. He is struggling to secure a leading position at different golf courses but ends up with the same average performances.
On the other hand, the American player has improved his putting and swing as well.
"I certainly have increased chipping and putting now, now that I've got the full swing where I like to have it," Woods said.
He continued, "I can spend the majority of my time chipping and putting. [That's] where I know that I've been lacking my game and where I've seen the biggest improvement lately, too, which is good".
These improvements will benefit him, if he can improve his driving distance and accuracy. Without the accurate long yards strokes, he cannot score any impressive birdies or eagles.
The only possibility for Woods is to improve his game so that he can be a proud winner in the near future.
He will be teeing off in the second round on Friday and will face tough challenging scores from the current leaders on the leaderboard.
