Tiger Woods upbeat at the TPC Boston
Tiger Woods shot his lowest round at the Deutsche Bank Open in three years on Friday but the rising star from South Korea stole the show. Tiger shot an impressive 7-under 64 but it was not enough to take him to the top of the leader board after the end of
the first round.
South Korea’s Seung-yul Noh surged to the top with a stunning 9-under 62 to lead the tournament after round 1. Noh is playing his first season on the PGA Tour.
He shot four straight birdies at the start ended the round with two consecutive birdies to take his score to 9-under. "Some people say Kevin Na, like, `Go Kevin,'" Noh said.
Chris Kirk only eagled at 18th and he only needed 23 putts to finish his first round at 8-under, just a stroke behind the leader.
It was always expected from the Tiger Woods to do well here. He was being tipped as the favourite to win the title by the bookies. The former world number 1 did live up to the expectations of his fans and everybody else. He is currently tied at T3 after
the first round.
Woods was in hot form as he shot six straight birdies in front of the New England crowd. His putting has given him problems in the past but this time around, he looked in complete control of his game.
He looked like the old champion that he was at one point. His approach shots were superb and majestic.  He executed some jaw dropping shots at the TPC Boston and is currently tied for the third place, along with Jeff Overton and Ryan Moore.
Woods has seen such leads slip this year. Twice he was leading at the majors but faded away in the last two rounds. However, this thing did not really worry him, as he was quite confident of the solid performance he gave in on Friday.
On the fourth hole, Woods tried a flop shot. Although initially it looked pretty difficult but the genius that he is, he executed it perfectly and landed right near the pin.
"I had to play an all-out shot to try to keep it on the green," he said. "I went for it, and it came off".
Woods played a solid game all around but he must have felt a little disappointed with the way his round ended. He bogeyed on the last hole, which clearly must have made him a little angry at himself.
"Unfortunately, it just wiggled about a half-ball left, where I thought it was going to wiggle about a half-ball right," he said.
Rory McIlroy on the other hand found it tough going initially but he recovered to finish with a respectable 6-under 65.
