Tiger Woods waiting for another major breakthrough
The 14-time major champion Tiger Woods suffered a knee injury in 2009, following a car accident. Thereafter, he spent about two years without a win in any of the professional events that he played.
He went out of the top-50 in the Official World Golf Rankings at the end of last year and became one of the lost legends of the game. People started believing that Woods’ career finished after the 2009 accident and the s*x scandal that led to the dissolution
of his marriage.
However, he proved his critics wrong with a sudden comeback with at the Chevron World Challenge last year when he received his first victory in two years. He then ended his winning drought on the PGA Tour with a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Last weekend, he surged to the second place in the OWGR after a third-place finish at The Open Championship. Moreover, he is the only player on the PGA Tour to record three victories during the 2012 season.
Despite all that, Woods is not happy. He definitely wanted a win on the PGA Tour this year and a top ranking in the OWGR. However, he was not as desperate for all that as he was for the 15th major title win of his career.
Woods have won 101 professional titles so far in his career and is currently the second highest winner on the PGA Tour after Sam Snead. Apart from that, he also remained the best golfer in the world for 623 weeks.
Therefore, reaching the mark of 18 major wins set by legendary Jack Nicklaus is the something more craving that anything else he had in his mind.
"It's part of golf. We all go through these phases. (For) some people it lasts entire careers. (For) others ... a little bit shorter," he said when asked how it felt not to have won a major since the 2008 U.S. Open.
According to him, he is finally back into shape and ready for another major championship victory soon.
"I finally feel like I'm really healthy. And I've got my pop back in my swing. So I'm hitting the ball distances I know I can," Woods told reporters.
He also gave an impression that he currently aims another major title rather than keeping an eye on Nicklaus’ record.
"Even the greatest players to ever play have all gone through little stretches like this. When your playing careers last 40 and 50 years, you're going to have stretches like this," he said.
Woods' next stop in majors will be at the PGA Championship in Kiawah Island in August this year.
