Tiger Woods walks out of the Cadillac Championship field due to Achilles tendon injury – Golf News
Tiger Woods left the Cadillac Championship field without completing his final round on Sunday, March 11, 2012, because of the soreness he felt in his left Achilles tendon, shaking his chances of playing the Masters Tournament next month.
Moreover, this was the first time that Woods had to leave the field of the Cadillac Championship without registering his name among the top 10 players on the leaderboard.
Among his 11 appearances, he had a total of six victories and top-10 finishes in every event he played.
Therefore, it was a disappointing moment for Woods to withdraw from the event where he had an excellent track record.
According to the sources, the injury is the same one that he suffered last year at Augusta National and missed two major events afterwards.
"I felt tightness in my left Achilles warming up this morning, and it continued to get progressively worse," Woods said in a statement.
He continued, "After hitting my tee shot at 12, I decided it was necessary to withdraw. In the past, I may have tried to continue to play, but this time, I decided to do what I thought was necessary".
After making his decision to withdraw, he shook hands with Webb Simpson, who was playing alongside him in his group in the final round.
"He just shook my hand and said, 'I've got to go in.' You could feel he was hurting,” Simpson said. “He didn't say a whole lot, but his expression was enough that he was in enough pain to end it".
The seriousness of the injury is not yet confirmed and it will be known after Woods will have a complete evaluation by the doctors.
Woods is now worried about his participation in the Masters, as he was preparing for it since the last quarter.
His swing was coming back, alongside his putting had seen some improvements in the last few weeks.
Moreover, his fans will face a huge disappointment if they will not see him competing in the first major event of the year.
His participation next month in the Masters is completely dependent on the seriousness of his injury, which does not seem to allow him to play for a few weeks at least.
