Tiger Woods winless time period ends, heading to Masters
Tiger Woods ended his long winless era by winning the glory of Arnold Palmer Invitational, at Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Florida.
The 36-year-old American professional golf player won the title by scoring 13-under par and 275 strokes in total. He displayed an amazing performance and was tremendous throughout the four days.
Since 2009, he has not won any tournament and was lacking behind to deliver his best. He was involved in scandals and injuries earlier on.
His game suffered after multiple devastating incidents and he also lost his top ranking position.
However, after almost three years, now Woods is back to form and is heading towards the leading position once again.
In January 2012, he was ranked outside the fifties. Now, he has used all his professional skills and reached the 6th position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Woods scored 69, 65, 71 and 70 in the four rounds of the tournament and defeated Graeme McDowell by five strokes.
The former no. 1 was very happy to see his name on the top of the leaderboard. He enjoyed the victory and the way he claimed the lead over the others.
This victory at the PGA staged event came after almost 924 days.
“It’s not like winning a Major championship or anything,” Woods said. “But it certainly feels really good. It was just pure joy”.
Woods competed well against the other professionals. The weather on Sunday’s final round was windy and unfavourable.
Nevertheless, he was impressive till the day-end, whereas all the others faced huge difficulties while scoring in the heavy winds.
“Today was unbelievable. The conditions were rough and those pins,” Woods said on Sunday.
“I don’t know what the average score was today, but it certainly wasn’t anywhere near par. It was a very tough day. It was a day of attrition. There weren’t going to be a lot of birdie opportunities out there”.
Now Woods is heading to the Masters Tournament and is confident to lead again. His impressive scoring and appealing birdies will definitely help him at the first major.
He has regained his confidence and is enjoying his first victory in three years. “It does feel good,” Woods said. “It feels really good. A lot of hard work”.
Masters Tournament is scheduled from April 5 to 8, at the Augusta National Golf Club in Texas. Woods will meet all the world top ranked golfers and other exceptional invitational players there as well.
