Tiger Woods: wrong attitude for the game
The U.S. PGA Championship is always one of the most important events of the year. It is a traditional event. The venue for this auspicious event, this year, was the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Ocean Course.
Very renowned names in the world of golf came together to fight for the trophy. As in all the tournaments, there were some favourites in this one as well. For this tournament, as expected, Tiger Woods was one of the top contenders.
Tiger Woods has been on the top of the official golf ranking for quite some time now. In 2010, he went through a rough patch and fell down till the 58th spot in 2011.
Woods finally bounced back and started to climb up the ladder. Now he is on the 3rd spot in the ranking, just behind Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald.
Woods is undoubtedly the best in the world but he still thinks there is a need to further prove a few points. The next thing in Tiger’s agenda is to break the record of Jack Nicklaus.
Nicklaus has a record of 18 major titles while Woods has won 14 till now. Tiger is looking to break his record and wanted to bag his 15th major title this year at Kiawah.
Tiger Woods had a magnificent start to the tournament and was even tied at the top of the table at the half way but failed to take the trophy home. Woods scored 74 and 72 on the closing days and missed his chance at this year’s Championship.
In the end, the event was bagged by the 23-year-old Irish Golfer, Rory McIlroy.
“I was right there ... but I came out with probably the wrong attitude yesterday and I was too relaxed, and tried to enjoy it, and that's not how I play. I play intense and full systems go. That cost me”.
“I putted really well today and had the speed good. Unfortunately, I just didn't give myself enough good looks,” he added.
Woods also paid a tribute to McIlroy. He talked about his game and how he deserved it.
“He's very good,” he said. “He’s got all the talent in the world to do what he's doing. And this is the way that Rory can play. When he gets it going, it's pretty impressive to watch”.
