Tiger misses the cut by 1 stroke at the Greenbrier Classic
Following the win at AT&T National, Tiger Woods was in sublime form coming into the Greenbrier Classic.
Playing for the first time at the Old White TPC course, Woods did not live up to the expectations of his fans and the fourteen-time major winner missed the cut for the third time this year.
Tiger Woods shot a first round of 71, followed by an improved performance in the second round where he shot 69. However, Tiger failed to make the cut by one stroke.
Once again, it was his short game that hindered his progress. His tee shots were superb and most of them landed on the fairways, where as his approach shots to the pin were below par. Tiger’s putting once again faded as he could not find his rhythm on the
greens.
His short game has really been a headache for him, his drives have been very good but his chips and puts have led him over the past few months.
After the end of second round, Tiger Woods made a fair assessment of his play at the Greenbrier Classic. He commented:
"I did not quite have it. I drove it really good today and I just did not have the feel for the distances. The ball was just going forever. I know we are at altitude, but I just could not get the ball hit pin high no matter what I did, and subsequently,
I made some bogeys".
With the British Open around the corner, Woods still needs to work on his short game. The fourteen-time major winner believes that cooler atmosphere at the Royal Lytham and St. Annes will improve his control over the long range shots.
"Yeah, because it is not going to be this warm and we are not going to be at altitude. We will be on the beach," he said.
Last time it was in 2005, when Tiger won a tournament and missed the cut in the following event.
Phil Mickelson, the four time major winner also missed the cut at the Greenbrier Classic. It was the second successive year in a row that Phil missed the cut at Old White TPC.
