Tiger needs a win, Tiger needs support
The WGC-HSBC Champions was held from the 4th of November to the 7th of this month and ended with Francesco Molinari topping the leader board after carding a total of 269 with a minus 19. The play was a display of top class golf with
most of the players collecting bogey free rounds at the Sheshan International GC in China.
The twenty-eight year old held up the "new" Old Tom Morris Trophy at the end of the event after saving the last par with his putt at the 18th hole. Having achieved that, the Italian ended the event on time as it avoided a playoff match between Lee Westwood
and himself.
He won the match, grabbed the trophy, the € 860,153 prize money, his flight to the Singapore Open and finally some time to celebrate his 28th birthday on the 8th of November.
But that’s the ending story of the HSBC event. Rewinding two hours of this event and we see Tiger Woods finishing his game being tied for the sixth place. The T6 attained by the thirty-four year old this year was a 2009 repetition, except, he wasn’t in any
controversy and had a 12 stroke deficit to fill. Woods managed to card a total of 281 with a minus 7 against a 269 with a minus 19 from the leader.
Tiger didn’t have much chances of winning, but he did have a large fan base following and supporting him. His Sunday’s play started with fog attacking the field so he faced a 90 minute delay. The game started at 11:30 a.m. and thus provided Tiger fans ample
time to gather around for his first tee.
The masses were divided into two categories. One followed Woods and the other favoured watching the leaders, Molinari, Westwood and Luke Donald.
According to one fan David, Tiger Woods needed support desperately.
David was part of a rather creative Tiger fan club. The group had adorned themselves with orange and black striped jerseys along with tiger hats. If this wasn’t enough, the group wore shirts that displayed two red words, "TIGER ROCKS”.
David said that Woods and him are golf club buddies and have played golf with each other quite often. He said that with what has been going on in Tiger’s life, his groups support is a reminder to him that his Chinese fans still love and respect him.
The group of supporters managed to bring a huge smile on Woods face when he saw them and received an appreciative thumbs-up sign.
