Tiger roars once more: Wins AT&T National
Tiger Woods is back on track and has now surpassed the record of Jack Nicklaus of the second highest wins on the PGA Tour. Tiger now has 74 PGA Tour victories.
At the AT&T National, it was a masterful display of skills by the former world number one. His brilliant performance earned him his third title of the year.
He is the first player this season to win three titles. It is a phenomenal performance by a man about whom people said that he will not win again.
Although Woods remains on the number four spot in the world golf rankings, he looked like that old Tiger, the Tiger Woods we knew off.
Woods shot a final round of 2-under 69 and came through a tough battle with Bo Van Pelt to clinch the title. In the last 44 holes that he completed, he had scored just one bogey.
On the back nine, Bo Van Pelt was toe to toe with Tiger until the pressure finally got to him and he ended up making a few unforeseen errors. Meanwhile, Woods held his composure and finished off in style.
With this win, he is now the number one player in the PGA Money Tour list and in the FedEx cup rankings as well.
A few months ago, Tiger walked off the golf course due to an injury on the left Achilles tendon. Many thought it is over for Tiger Woods but he defied his critics and went on to win at Bay Hill.
Since then, Tiger has been performing more consistently. Woods has now his eyes set on The Open which begins on 15th July.
He is chasing the record of Jack Nicklaus for the highest number of major wins. Tiger is just four short of Jack, with 14.
With Tiger now returning to his old form, he will be one of the favourites to win The Open. Tiger Woods feels that he has many more years still left and he can definitely go a long way.
When asked about his preparation for The Open, he came up with a very honest and professional answer.
Woods said: ‘It is going to be totally different shot making and prep. I am going to have to start practicing some different shots and getting used to hitting the ball a little bit lower, a little bit more flighted. It is totally different game playing links
golf. But I still have to have the ability to get the ball up in the air. That is something that we are going to work on’.
