Tiger settles for cheap prize to win JBWere Australian Masters
Tiger Woods has made his way to the Victoria Golf Club, where the JBWere Australian Masters will kick off today, on November 11th, 2010 for the prize money of $250000 - half of Woods appearance fees.
The event that falls under the PGA tour for Australasia is the only chance left for the former world number one to help his purpose. Woods has been winless on the PGA tour, he has failed to defend all his titles and he has lost his number
one rank to Lee Westwood. In order to add a victory to his diary of 2010, Tiger Woods has opted to take part in an event, which is carrying a purse of AUD$1,500,000.
The American golfer claimed a glorious victory in the same event last year against Stuart Appleby. Woods won with a margin of two strokes and forced the player to rethink over his ability of handling putters. Once again both the players
will meet face to face; however, there is a slight hunch that the battle won’t be action packed. The deduction is supported by Tiger Woods form and his track record of losing all the titles this season.
Despite of all the odds, world number two is being considered as the ideal choice for the winner’s trophy. According to the media reports, Woods has been in-form ever since the BMW Championship. He finished 15th in the event and
proceeded into Ryder Cup, where he defeated Francesco Molinari in the singles. The 34-year-old carried his spark to HSBC Championship, where he seized the fifth spot of the leader board.
With tiered greens designed by Dr. Alistair McKenzie, stakes to win the title are high for the dark skinned golfer. Woods has not recovered from issues with putting, but with all certainty, he won’t face the same trouble in Victoria Golf
Club as the par-72 course is very small for the long driver. The course has been designed for low scoring and it is evident from the course record made by the winner of 2002 masters, Steve Allan who reeled 19-under-par in 54-hole event.
Moreover, he wants his title back before the year comes to a close. In pursuit of this noble cause, the 14-time major winner is packed with motivation and confidence. With small greens and motivation on his side, it is easy to predict the
possible winner of the event.
Tiger won’t be facing a powerful field, which will act as a cherry on an ice cream. However, he might encounter some good challenge from Australian natives - Robert Allenby and Geoff Ogilvy. Allenby is ranked as the number one golfer in
Australia, whereas, Ogilvy has the edge of being Tiger’s teammate in Ryder Cup and has a fair knowledge of Australian courses. This produces a strong deduction that it will be very easy for Ogilvy to kick dust in the eyes of world number two. Moreover, Ogilvy
has practiced for 17 years on the same venue, which means he knows the course by every inch.
Considering all the pros and cons, chances are that Tiger Woods will win the title of JBWere Australian Masters, which takes place every year in November. The event is targeting a mediocre field from Australia, but this does not mean that
Tiger Woods will get away easily with the winner’s trophy. He will have to fight against Stuart Appleby who is a groomed golfer since 2009, Sergio Garcia who is excellent on putting surface, and Geoff Ogilvy who is the reigning prince in Australian golf.
However, Tiger Woods has mustered up the courage and stepped on the Australian soil to defend his title of JBWere Australian Masters. The event is being staged on Victoria Golf Club, which is situated in Cheltenham, Victoria. Ironically,
Tiger is too desperate for a victory that he has not bothered about the fact that $250000 is not the prize he would charge to show his face on a tournament.
