Tigers looking solid ahead of 2013 Spring Training – MLB News

Except for the 0-4 hammering against the San Francisco Giants in World Series finals, the Detroit Tigers had an excellent 2012 season. Tigers started the season slowly but as the players started to know each other, performances on the field were improved
dramatically.
Chicago White Sox led the American League Central Division standings table for most part of the season. Mid August, they were still there and it seemed they were hold on to clinch the AL Central title but the Tigers had other ideas.
Manager Jim Leyland showed faith in his boy even in the most disappointing and depressing times. The Tigers had an outstanding pitching attack. The likes of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez, Doug Fister and Drew Smyly enjoyed great success
as the Tigers crawled their way back into the season. End of September, Tigers had reclaimed the number one spot on the league standings table.
After claiming the AL Central title for the second straight time, the Tigers went on to beat Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees to secure the American League Division Series and the American League Championship Series. The Tigers would never want to
talk about what happened afterwards.
In the offseason, the Tigers worked on the policy to retain the best in the team. Miguel Cabrera, who still has a couple of years left on his contract, will be the major attraction in the offence while Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez would look to continue
their domination in American League.
Prince Fielder, who was signed for the fourth largest contract in history of Major League Baseball, had a quiet time on the plate in 2012. He will be looking to turn the tables on his own in 2013. Furthermore, the Tigers made their biggest signings of this
offseason in former Los Angeles Angels’ catcher Torii Hunter.
Hunter signed on a lucrative contract before the Annual Meetings. He would be looking to make every opportunity count to end his career on a bright note. If Leyland can get the best out of the players, surely the Tigers are going to post another successful
season.
