Tigers must find a way to win consistently – MLB Detroit Tigers News
Detroit Tigers had an excellent time in their series against Minnesota Twins. Jim Leyland and company entered the series with a poor 24-20 record and it was extremely important for them to get close to the .500 win percentage mark.
The Tigers showed great determination throughout the three match series, beating the Twins in all three games to improve their record to 23-24. Facing Boston Red Sox in their next four game series, the Tigers were expected to continue their excellent form
against their American League rivals. After all, they are the favourites to win the AL Central division title.
However, Mike Ilitch’s team failed to make the most of available opportunities in the opener on Monday, May 28 at Fenway Park in Boston and the Red Sox cruised to a 7-4 win. Considering the Tigers have some of the best hitters and pitchers in their lineup,
the fans expected them to have a dominant season but that has not turned out to be the case so far.
Tigers’ batting lineup, in particular, has proved to be a great disappointment. A team that is relying heavily on their hitting assets has been struggling to put up enough runs on the board. In frustration, Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland has been seen to have
arguments with match officials but the Tigers have no one to blame except for themselves.
"I'm not going to sit here and rip umpires," Leyland said, after the game against Boston Red Sox. "I'm the most protective person in the world of umpires. I protect them more than anybody in the game."
"There shouldn't have been a second-inning rally," he said, his voice rising. "There were three outs. I've been in the game a long time. ... You guys need to write something and hold people accountable.”
Justin Verlander may have given impressive performances since the start of 2012 season but the offence will have to be more productive to let the skipper achieve his goals. Detroit Tigers does not have enough time to regroup themselves and it will be interesting
to see if they can start to win games on regular basis before the All Star Break.
