Question:

Tigers swindled by Yankees in Pudge-Farnsworth deal?

How can a team who has been struggling offensively at times(leading league in being shutout)give up its 5th highest batting average man in the lineup .295, a durable gold glove catcher who has been a pillar in Detroit Tigers rise to contention? for a relief pitcher with not much experience and no proven track record as he only has 1 save this year with the Yankees? Brandon Inge may be a good defenseman behind the plate and all over the field with a mighty bat at times, but look at his numbers this year, and he hasn't been behind the plate extensively for quite awhile. Top that off, they have no back up catcher behind him. Sure the Tigers need a reliever, but you don't give up a high profile player like Pudge for a guy with no credentials. Pudge may be aging, but he's still dependable. The Yankees have many good pitchers, and Rodriguez will definitely be big boost for their playoff chances. As far as the Tigers go, they won't even finish .500 and 2006 surely looks more&more like a fluke

  1. I heard that Pudge was actually upset with the Tigers having some less playing time. And Pudge actually has not really been Pudge so his trade value was apparently low (but I didn't think it was this low). However Farnsworth has been decent of late so it's not a completely bad move considering the Tigers are in need of pitching help enough that they thought giving up a strong bat might be worth it. Although some think this is a "wave the white flag move" by the Tigers and it looks like a steal for the Yankees.

  2. I am good! The more I think about this trade, the happier I am about it. They get a reliable everyday catcher who can hit to spell Posada for the rest of the year (he's a rent-a-player) for a reliever who was only good at times and frustrated the h**l out of me.

Glad to see the Yankees are trying to make moves and send out Yankee Stadium in style. Thanks, Detroit.

    Roll on, Empire!

  3. Yankees fans are shocked that anyone even wanted Farnsworth. He's awful.

We managed to get a catcher who can play his position AND bat. This trade could not favor the Yankees anymore.

  4. How were the Tigers swindled by the Yankees?  Cashman or Steinbrenner didn't force the Tigers to make the deal.  I am surprised that anybody wanted Farnsworth though.

  5. Because they are the Tigers and that's what they do. I have seen some awful trades in the last two decades.

  6. omg. im like really mad that pudge got traded. he's like my idol catcher cause im also a catcher so yea. now i can't see him play unlesss the yankees play the tigers. i was over at my bffls house today then all the sudden i get two text messages from my cousin and my sister that say PUDGE GOT TRADED! at first i was like totally speachless. but then once i rapped my head around it i started screaming and flipping out! my bffl was like why are you like pmsing? so yeah. im like really disapointed in jim leyland he was like one of our star players and he traded him! trade someone else like inge, or thames. NOT PUDGE! im thinking about starting a protest. lol jk. that probably wont stop them so for know im just gonna have to start gettin over it. ='[ ='[ this is like a huge joke!

  7. About the only one happy with this trade is Braden Inge. Remember he was in trade talks all spring. Finally he will have his chance to play every day.

I think the Tigers traded Pudge because they do have alot of power in their lineup. But have struggled with the bullpen.

What they will miss the most is the way Pudge handled the pitching staff.

  8. The Tigers were stupid - not because they traded Pudge, but because Farnsworth won't help their bullpen at all.

  9. Ok this Yankee fan is 50/50 on this trade . Mainly because Pudge is d**n near 40 as well as Posada . Now Farnsworth was not a favorite pitcher of mines and many other yankees fans but after 2 terrible seasons in relief he finally showed signs of being reliable for once late in games . Pudge has not been the same Pudge since the steriods investigation took place . His power numbers are way down ! He was never a big homerun guy but was hitting well over 300 ,driving in close to 100 runs a season , and in the top ten in doubles and slugging percentage ! I guess im unsure whether this trade makes them better or that im bitter that he didnt sign  with the yankees after he left texas ! I dont know , i just hope we can get the pitching in order so we can catch the rays and make the playoffs ! To be honest i would have been happ y with Barry Bonds coming for free and we keep Farnsworth !

  10. Because to resist the Empire is futile.
