Tight security in place ahead of Super Bowl XLVI clash - NFL News
With the Super Bowl XLVI right around the corner, Homeland Security and the National Football league have heightened security around the Lucas Oil Stadium and strict measures are being taken to provide a complete security blanket around the big event.
With such a huge sporting event taking place which is expected to draw 67,000 fans to the stadium the authorities are taking no chances and have advised fans that entry into the stadium will be slowed down by the rigorous checking.
The authorities have released a long list of items banned from the stadium to prevent any untoward incidents and fans could either leave those items in their car or have them confiscated.
Around 3000 security personnel have been given training to provide security for the game day while Indianapolis Police and rescue services will be on full staff during the event.
While another 8000 volunteers have been tasked with assisting the security forces in case of any problems.
Janet Napolitano, the Homeland Security Secretary, has also told fans that pat downs, X-ray scans, metal detectors, sniffer dogs and a host of other security measures will be in place.
Private aircraft have also been banned from the airspace around the stadium and no blimps will be allowed in the sky on game day.
Security around huge sports events have been severely heightened since the September 2001 World Trade Centre attacks, however, there have been no credible threats to the games security as of yet.
Nonetheless, Homeland Security is still calling on the fans to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to authorities.
"We have seen time and time again that the public itself is some of our best preventers," Napolitano said.
The Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, February 5th, 2012 with American Football Conference (AFC) Champions New England Patriots taking on the National Football Conference (NFC) Champions New York Giants in a repeat of their 2007 Super Bowl
encounter.
Both teams have been in brilliant form on their way to the Super Bowl and the clash will be one of the most memorable games in National Football League (NFL) history.
Let’s just hope that the game happens safely without any major incident and fans can enjoy the greatest spectacle on Earth.
