Two computers have VNC servers up and running. Passwords are also set on both the default settings and user settings (same passwords for both). Every time I try to connect remotely using vnc viewer, the password prompt comes up and so I type in the correct password. I hti enter and the "authentication failure" message pops up. I've tried EVERYTHING possible and i looked EVERYWHERE but cannot find an answer. Please help! This is urgent as I am trying to connect from home to my work computers.

  1. fire walls may be blocking the access from the other pc

  2. Two questions:

Do you have firewalls on both the computers?  If so make sure Windows firewall is allowing VNC and make sure whatever 3rd party firewall is allowing VNC. Also, if your work computer is behind a big server, the server may not allow VNC for security reasons.

Is your VNC pirated? If so, that may be your problem.

  3. simple , you are using vnc to connect to the WAN ip the external ip the issue is that while you see the WAN your router is not set to port forward the request for remote access to the specific client ( your work pc ) your network admin would have to port forward the vnc port ( 5550) to your work station after giving it a static LAN ip in the nic card . very easy to do
