Tightness in Chicago Cubs’ Bryan LaHair’s back persists - MLB News
The continued tightness in Bryan LaHair’s lower back did not allow the player to appear in exhibition game on Tuesday, April 03. As to whether he will be able to play in the Opening Day game against the Washington Nationals on Thursday, is something that will be decided after the re-evaluation on Wednesday.
"We'll see what happens on opening day," Sveum said. "He's getting better every day, so we'll just see with the treatment and everything, but he won't be doing anything today. We'll see what happens tomorrow."
It was last Friday when the player contracted this injury. Since then he has been unable to show up in any of the game with being in the disabled list.
There are a lot of things that go to the player’s favour at this juncture. Spring has remained particularly good for the 29-year-old player who came down hard on the rivals with his powerful hitting.
Having maintained .295 average with .410 slugging percentage, LaHair has proved his instrumentality for the offence. What was, however, conspicuously missing in the equation were the homers.
LaHair is known to be someone who is prolific when it comes to home runs. He dominated the Triple-A-Iowa last year with 38 homers.
The tightness in lower back might be somewhat worrying for LaHair or other teammates around. But for Dale Sveum, MRI should not, and does not really, concern him.
"Once you've played for a long time, pretty much everybody's MRI will show something or some sort of a bulging disc, whether it's big or small," Sveum said.
The Cubs have other considerations at this point in time. The offence does not seem to have much of vulnerability or fragility in case any player fails to make his way into it. Nonetheless, addition of LaHair will eventually be advantageous for the Chicago Cubs.
As to what comes out of the MRI, it can only be left for conjecture. There is only thing that can be said with certitude: LaHair’s being in team will empower the offence enough to make things difficult for the rival teams ahead.
