Tijmen Eising wins first stage and also takes overall lead in Carpathia Couriers Paths
Sunweb-Revor team’s Tijmen Eising won the first stage of Carpathia Couriers Paths in Dohnany on Thursday, on June 9.
The 20-year-old Dutch cyclist took a total of 3 hours and 2 seconds to cover a distance of 128 kilometres.
Michael Savo of Wallonie U23 was the runner-up and Michael Kolar of Inter Bratislava finished in the third spot.
Piotr Kirpsza (Aktio Group Mostostal Pulawy), Andrzej Bartkiewicz (LMGKK Ziemia Brzeska) and Wojciech Migdal (Azysa Conor WRC) were in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Kamil Gradek of Kellys GKS Cartusia Kartuzy tried his best to catch the 79 cyclists, but he failed to maintain his pace and grabbed the 80th place with a difference of 1 minute and 27 seconds.
This stage was difficult for the riders because it contained four mountains and two sprints. The three riders, Lubomir Petrus, Pawel Pac and Jiri Polnicki were leading in the first mountain.
However, Lubomir Petrus won the first and second mountain, but he failed to maintain the situation in the third climb. Mieszko Bulik took Final Mountain ahead of Jiri Polnicki and Jakub Foltyn.
A group of three cyclists made their first break, including Pawel Bernas, Tomas Danacik and Martin Mahdar.
All of them gained a lead of few seconds over the peloton, but Pawel took the sprint with 3 points. However, all three riders were caught by the peloton before the final sprint.
A new group was formed including, Tijmen Eising, Sven Beelen and Antonie Demoitie. Sven Beelen attack and maintained his pace to take a lead of 2 seconds, but Tijmen had good legs and so with the help of his team-mate he crossed the finish-line ahead of
other cyclists.
Lubomir Petrus overshadowed Eising’s impressive performance and went to become the King of Mountains with six points as compared to the Dutchman’s three.
Tijmen Eising was also the leader in overall classification ahead of Pawel Bernas with a difference of 11 seconds. Gerard Hophra was in the third spot with a difference of 12 seconds.
The next stage will start in Dohnany and end in Stara Bystrica. All the riders will cover a distance of 127 kilometres.
