Question:

Tile install problem?

I recently installed tile on the floor of a small bathroom. I didn't put any cement board down although I did consider it, but decided not to due to the small space and didn't think I would have any movement to worry about. But now the grout has cracked. Is there anything I can do about this without breaking out the tile that is already down? Please only answer if you are experienced in tile. Thank you in advance

  1. You are getting movement and deflection.. That is why the grout is cracking.. You need at least 1/2 in board down (thinset and then nail or s***w it down).. Sorry but the only way to correct your mistake is to rip it up and start anew   The American Tile Counsil calls for a minimum of 1 1/4 in total substrate  to lay tile 3/4 + 1/2 is the norm..GL
