Tillakarante Dilshan, new skipper for Sri Lanka cricket team
Tillakarante Dilshan, Sri Lanka’s swash buckling opener has been named as the new captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team for their upcoming tour of England. Dilshan was one of the highest achievers in terms of runs for Sri Lanka in
their recent World Cup campaign, and has replaced, Kumar Sangakkara.
Dilshan is famous for playing aggressive cricket and being consist with the bat. He is also one of the few players who brought innovation to the game. To his credit, Dilshan invented a new shot which later became his trademark, called
the “Dil” shot.
His statistics provide a clear indication of his appointment as the captain of the ship. His genocide launching abilities with the cricket bat immediately forces the opposition to go on the back foot, making it difficult for them to
regain a leading position.
Dilshan will be leading the national side in all three formats of the game. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board had been extensively searching and considering possible players who possessed the potential to captain the cricket team in the
international arena. Dilshan, with over six thousand test and one day international runs to his name, seemed the most obvious choice.
Sangakkara, who previously led the team, decided his fate as captain after suffering a World Cup Final loss in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
After Sangakkara, it was Mahela Jayawardene who decided to step down from his designation of vice-captain in the team. However, the new vice captain has yet to be decided, "the prospective candidates are nursing injuries, and their
availability for the forthcoming tour is still in question."
Most speculations placed the 23-year-old all rounder, Angelo Mathews as the one to fill in Sangakkara’s shoes.
Dilshan has represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 66 test matches, 203 one day internationals and 32 Twenty20 Internationals. The captain has 11 test centuries and 10 ODI’s hundred to his credit. With his batting abilities, Dilshan’s bowling potential
and fielding abilities cannot be ignored at any cost. Even though he operates as a part time bowler, 62 batsmen to date have become victim to his intelligent bowling in one day internationals.
All these statistics are enough to prove that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board made the right decision.
