Tillakaratne Dilshan gearing up for his new role as Sri Lanka captain – Cricket news
The newly appointed Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan on Wednesday said that he has toned down his looks in order to focus on his new and challenging role as the skipper of the side.
The 34-year-old prolific Sri Lanka all-rounder removed his earring and dyed his blonde streaks to black hours after the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket selectors appointed him captain of the team for their tour of England. The appointment comes
after Kumar Sangakkara resigned from the post following their ICC World Cup 2011 final defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 earlier in April.
When asked why he has opted for a sober look, Dilshan- who is famous for his signature scoop shot known as Dilscoop- told media reporters that times have changed and the things which were fashionable for him earlier are not so now.
“Times have changed. I pierced my ear, when my daughter cried when her ears were being pierced,” reminisced Dilshan while talking to the media persons during his short two-day visit to Colombo.
“Now I don't see a need to wear the earring. The same with my hair. It was fashionable then for me, it's not so now,” he added further.
Whilst Dilshan has toned down his looks, he hoped that the additional responsibility would not affect his game. He added that he would continue his belligerent batting style during the two-month long tour of England.
“I'm a bit aggressive. Perhaps I will sometimes change my style a bit. But I might play with it (aggressiveness) even as a captain,” said the hard-hitting opening batsman who was the leading run scorer in the recently concluded ICC
World Cup 2011 with a tally of 500 runs from 9 games at an average of 62.50.
Dilshan, who keeps wickets occasionally, also plays for the Bangalore based Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The right-arm off-break bowler said that being appointed as Sri Lanka captain is a dream come true for him adding that he never expected it during his 12-year-long international career.
He further said that it is a challenging role for him and he wants to make best of the opportunity he has been given.
